The Jávea C.N. has a great tradition and history within the Sailing Clubs of the Valencian Community.

The Club organises several activities and competitions within the world of sailing, fishing and diving and it aims to be a meeting place for all those who love the sea.

The beginning of the Jávea Sailing Club

The Javea Sailing Club is located an area which is closely linked to the works on the Levante breakwater. The great engineering work of the time dates back to 1949, when the project for the new breakwater and counterdike was created, which replaced the meagre breakwater cobbles with solid concrete blocks.

The project was drafted by the engineer Vicente Vicioso Vidal, from the Grupo de Puertos de Alicante-Valencia and it was awarded to the contractor Bernal Pareja S.A. on 28th January 1952 in exchange for 18,520,265 pesetas.

The works began in 1952, date of the first phase of the large-scale project, but it would not be until 1973 when the last works were finally completed, finishing the Levante and Poniente breakwaters as we know them today.

In 1956, a second refurbishment included deeper docks attached to the breakwater (Poniente breakwater) as a result of the fishing renovation. All the reforms of the breakwater were carried out from the beginning to favour the local fishing industry, a strong pillar at that time for the subsistence of the fishing district of Aduanas de la Mar.

The current social building dates back to 1964.

In 2006 the Jávea Sailing Club was chosen as the venue for the IX Copa de S.M el Rey, an important national deep-sea fishing competition.

The Sir Thomas Lipton Match Race, an international regatta attended by the best crews in the world in this speciality, is held every spring.

Together with the Jávea City Council, a marquee is set up, open to the public, from where everyone can attend the races free of charge, with free drinks and food and with expert comments through the loudspeakers.
